Management Leadership For Tomorrow
Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) is a national nonprofit that develops African American, Hispanic and Native American young people for leadership positions in corporations, nonprofits, and entrepreneurial ventures where these minority groups are dramatically under-represented. In partnership with the top MBA programs and several blue-chip corporations (including McKinsey & Company, Goldman Sachs, PepsiCo and Citigroup), MLT delivers programming at the critical career transition points: high school to college, college to early career, early career to MBA, and MBA to executive leadership.
MLT equips high-potential minority talent with the hard and soft skills they need to succeed in corporations, nonprofits, and entrepreneurial ventures. With over 300 Career Prep alumni and 500 MBA Prep alumni to date, MLT is creating a generation of high-impact business and community leaders that will have the skills, relationships, capital, and commitment needed to make a difference in their communities.
Vision
A world where all motivated minorities have the opportunity to realize their full career potential.
Mission
Increase the presence of minorities in fast track entry-level jobs and major graduate business schools as preparation for leadership positions in corporations, non-profit organizations and entrepreneurial ventures.
Challenge
Despite representing 28% of the U.S. population, minorities comprise only 16% of graduates from the top 100 colleges, 8% of all students at the 30 top MBA programs (versus 12%-13% at top law and medical schools) and only 3% of those in senior management positions, according to a joint study by MLT and the Boston Consulting Group (2001).
Solution
In the last few decades, scholarship and internship programs have expanded access to educational and career opportunities. MLT's Talent Development System complements these offerings and ensures that these opportunities are fully realized by providing young people with the skills, coaching, personalized career map, and relationships critical for career success.
Results
Today, MLT is the number-one source of minority students for the nation’s top ten MBA programs. For example, 90%+ of our MBA Prep fellows are offered admissions to a top business school of choice. At the undergraduate level, over 90% of MLT’s Career Preparation fellows secure internships at the company of their choice and over 95% secure full-time job offers upon graduation.
