2015 MLT MBA Prep Cohort 7 Serves Los Angeles Schools

By: MLT

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.”

On January 19th, MLT Cohort 7 Community Service Chair, John Frame, and members of the cohort participated in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service sponsored by City Year Los Angeles (CYLA) and its corporate partners. As part of their MBA Prep curriculum, MLT members raised $700 and joined CYLA staff and AmeriCorps members, 1,000 Los Angeles-area volunteers, as well as City Year Co-Founder Michael Brown and Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, to transform the physical campus of the Diego Rivera Learning Complex in South Los Angeles. Participants painted over 70 different murals at the learning complex’s four different schools, inspiring students to learn and grow in a safe, vibrant educational community.

Bernadette Morales, Senior Corporate Relations & Events Manager at City Year Los Angeles and organizer of the annual event, stated, “This year’s MLK Day of Service was City Year Los Angeles’ largest and most successful to date. We are grateful to MLT for being a part of this success. MLT volunteers worked diligently on a mural that encourages students to attend college and to ‘Believe, Achieve, and Succeed.’  In addition, MLT members helped raise $700 to help support City Year AmeriCorps members who work full-time in schools to provide students the extra care and attention they need to succeed. Thank you MLT for your incredible support!”
