MBA PD Applicant FAQs

Yes, all events are mandatory.

Can I participate in MBA Professional Development (MBA PD) if I’m not in NYC?

Yes, we have participants from all over the country. The majority of the program is conducted remotely, including assignments, webinars and coach calls. Do I have to accept a job at an MLT partner organization to qualify for MBA PD?

MLT partners provide financial support to the organization in order to have access to you, the fellows! MLT partners join us at seminars, webinars and events to provide fellows with relevant content on the various career paths fellows may want to pursue. MLT partners also interview fellows at various MLT events and on-campus. Although fellows are not required to accept offers from any specific organization, the organizations we partner with have made a commitment to hire diverse individuals from MLT. In addition, we want all applicants to MBA PD to be interested in networking and recruiting with at least one partner. If you receive multiple partners for employment, it is up to you to select the best fit for your career goals.

I’m interested in an MLT partner organization that isn’t listed as an MBA-level partner. Can I still recruit with them through MLT?

We provide our partners with what they care about and pay for-and it varies by partner and need. MLT may be the perfect fit to source graduate talent but not undergraduate talent- and vice versa.  In some large corporations, the recruiting contacts are different by program and they select their own talent pools.

It is true that some undergraduate partners recruit MBAs. As an organization, we will work harder to learn and share these types of opportunities as they become available, however, these opportunities won’t be supported in the same way we support our PD partner opportunities. The onus will be on PD Fellows to navigate through the process. Please update your resumes and LinkedIn profiles to be sure MLT is included- so the connection is established on the partner side.

What are the costs associated with MBA Professional Development?

There is a $55 non-refundable application fee. If admitted, fellows pay a program deposit (non-refundable) and an event fee (refundable). You will be responsible for transportation costs associated with attending the required events held throughout the year at partner companies, but your hotel and some meals on those trips will be covered.

Current MBA Prep Fellows who apply to the program can waive their application fee if they apply by our Round 1 deadline. In addition, fellows who donate the $250 refundable fee in MBA Prep and apply in Round 1 will receive a discounted program deposit for PD.

Note: Costs subject to change

Where are the seminars held?

Seminar locations vary from year to year but are typically held Thursday evenings through Sunday afternoons at our partner organizations. (Fellows are notified of cities and dates once confirmed after they are accepted into the program.)

Can I be a part of MLT although I plan to pursue an executive or part-time MBA?

No. We’ve designed the curriculum to focus on applying to a full-time program, and it may not be relevant to part-time programs.

Can I participate although I am not a US Citizen?

All participants must be US Citizens or Permanent Legal Residents.

Can I participate even though I am not of African American, Hispanic or Native American descent?

In order to participate, you must identify as an African American, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American. People who have a combination of any of these three ethnic groups are also encouraged to apply.

What makes a strong application for the MBA Professional Development Program?

The selection committee is looking for individuals who demonstrate excellence in the following three areas:

  • Academic Achievement: Those with a 3.0 GPA or greater and a 550 or higher official GMAT score are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Leadership: Applicants should demonstrate leadership experience and potential.
  • Career Exploration and Progression: Applicants should be interested in networking and MBA-level recruiting with at least one of MLT’s corporate partners. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to their personal and professional path through participation in organizations, internships, and other activities. In addition, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of their post-MBA career goals.

How much work experience should I have when applying?

Most business-school applicants have 3-5 years of solid work experience.

When will I be notified if I am admitted into the program?

Round 1 decisions are communicated in early February and Round 2 decisions are communicated in early April or earlier.

Note: Notification timing is subject to change. We will inform applicants of any delay in decisions.

What happens if I don’t get in? Can I re-apply the next year?

Yes. Be sure you demonstrate recently developed skills and underscore what has changed in the last year. Do not resubmit your old application.
