The MLT Career Prep Program Experience

Your MLT Career Prep experience starts the summer before your junior year of college and continues through the beginning of your senior year.

The next MLT Career Prep program kicks off in June 2017, with your first must-attend seminar taking place in August 2017, the second in mid-November 2017, the third in mid-April 2018 and your final career transition seminar in August 2018. Each seminar includes intensive skill-building workshops, simulations and in-depth case studies delivered by MLT’s corporate partners, MLT coaches, and subject matter experts. Seminars are hosted on the campuses of MLT’s corporate partners:  recent seminars have been hosted at Deloitte University, Target and LinkedIn. As a Career Prep Rising Leader, you will engage in professional training through intensive in-person seminars, web-based curriculum, and an internship.

In addition to the intensive seminars and web-based curriculum, you will benefit from:

  1. One-on-one coaching: Your experienced MLT Coach will guide you throughout the program and help you develop a personalized career roadmap that ties long-term career aspirations to near-term goals and development objectives.
  2. Personal clarity: You will gain insight into your strengths, passions and development areas and how they align with your ultimate career goals. You will be able to better tell your story in job interviews.
  3. Job search guidance and support: You will develop the skills and relationships needed for your target career and be prepared to be successful in the recruiting process. This includes resume and cover letter help, in addition to networking, interviewing and relationship management tips.
  4. A high-leverage professional network: Connect with a community of peers with similar goals and 6,000+ MLT Alumni, corporate partners, and other executives throughout the program.
  5. Exposure and access to top employers: You will get unique access to the best hiring organizations in consulting, technology, financial services, consumer goods, retail, and more—all seeking to recruit MLT Rising Leaders for internships and full-time jobs.

Rosalie Schraut, Senior Director, College Programs

Education: Rosalie obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign

ExperienceAfter graduation, Rosalie became a recruiter for a technical consulting firm. After one year, she moved to an internet consulting firm, recruiting engineers, executives, and undergraduates. From there, Kraft Foods hired Rosalie to manage their MBA and executive recruiting for Market Research, Brand Management, and Marketing Services. Rosalie supervised the INROADS internship program at Kraft HQ. Outside of work, she volunteered with Chicago Scholars and Chicago YMCA to present resume writing, interview skills, and life coaching for high school students of color. Rosalie originally joined MLT in 2004, as a Career Prep Coach. Over the next seven years, Rosalie continued in Career Prep and was promoted to Head Coach then Associate Director, as well as stepping in as Interim Director, two times. She left MLT in late 2011 to focus on her family. Over the course of the next 3 years, she continued to engage in small projects for MLT, such as application review and alumni communication. Rosalie officially came back in a full-time capacity to MLT in 2015 to help run the MBA Professional Development program. She continues to volunteer at the local elementary school and coaches youth soccer.

Aysia Francis,
 Associate, College Programs

Education: BA in Journalism concentrating in Public Relations from Howard University

Experience: Aysia joined the MLT team in January 2017. Upon graduation from Howard University in 2014, Aysia briefly worked with global PR agency, Golin, where she focused on digital account management for healthcare clients. Prior to joining MLT, Aysia served as Communications Coordinator for ColorComm, Inc., an organization focused on advancing the visibility of women of color in the communications industry. There she assisted with event planning, overseeing partnerships and overall organization operations. As the College Programs associate, Aysia manages communications for both the Ascend program and Career Prep program as well as supports and assists with the strategic projects and initiatives for each program.

Career Prep Coaches

Michelle Florendo, Career Prep Coach

EducationBachelor of Science in Management Science and Engineering, concentration in Decision Engineering, Stanford University; MBA, Haas School of Business at University of California – Berkeley.

Experience: After building her own business as a career coach, Michelle joined MLT in 2015 in order to combine her love for coaching with her dedication to promoting diversity. She brings with her over a decade of experience in management consulting, brand management, and nonprofit management. Her work has spanned multiple industries, including healthcare, consumer packaged goods, K-12 public education, and edtech. She is passionate about leveraging technology to improve organizations’ efficiency and effectiveness, as well as connecting individuals with tools that accelerate learning. Michelle loves integrating the lean startup method and design thinking into career planning, and she is known for using her analytical expertise, careful questioning, and personal experience to help her clients craft fulfilling and successful careers.

Education: MBA with a concentration in finance, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Accounting, Roosevelt University.

Experience: Valerie joined MLT in 2006, prior to which she worked in financial services in sales, new business development and as a client manager. At GE, she marketed finance capabilities and priced, structured and negotiated terms and conditions. In Private Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs, she sold equity, fixed income and special investments products to investment managers, insurance companies, nonprofit institutions and individuals. Valerie also obtained Series 3, 7 and 63 securities licenses. As a financial analyst at CBS News, she managed the operating budget for foreign-service news bureaus. She has completed a formal bank credit-training program and worked in public accounting as an auditor.


Andrea M. O’Neal, Career Prep Coach

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from Brown University

ExperienceAndrea joined the Career Prep coaching team at MLT in 2013 with a professional background in financial services. As an Equity Capital Markets investment banker at Merrill Lynch, Andrea has enjoyed achievements that include a direct promotion to IB Associate, participation in Merrill Lynch’s Associate Training Program at The Wharton School, a member of deal teams for some of the world’s most preeminent IPOs, and being selected by the firm to live and work internationally for 4 years across Europe and Asia. She also has earned securities licenses for financial markets in the US, UK, and Hong Kong. After leaving Merrill Lynch’s London office, Andrea became the Senior Program Manager of the SEO Career Program’s investment banking & private equity platform. As a Coach, Andrea is deeply passionate about seeing young professionals thrive by helping them to find personal clarity and to build competitive skills that earn full-time positions in leading global careers.

Miguel A. Sánchez, Career Prep Coach

Education: MBA, Harvard Business School. A.B. in Government, Harvard College.

Experience: Miguel joined MLT in 2016 with a background in financial services, private equity & venture capital investing, corporate strategy and technology entrepreneurship. Miguel has worked in Investment Banking at Credit Suisse and in various corporate roles at JPMorgan Chase. Miguel is an alumnus of Prep for Prep, a Gates Millennium Scholar, and a Robert Toigo Fellow.


Rishal Stanciel, Senior Career Prep Coach

Education: MBA, concentration in marketing and management strategy, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. B.A., Political Science, Northwestern University.

Experience: Rishal joined MLT in 2008. She has over 15 years of consumer packaged goods sales and marketing management experience as well as sports management experience with several organizations including Kraft, M&M Mars, Pfizer and Russell Athletic. At Northwestern she played Division I basketball as a full scholarship athlete. Her last corporate assignment was Marketing Director of Women’s Sports and Marketing Strategy for Russell Corporation. Since leaving corporate America, she has been managing a nonprofit, GLUE (Giving Love Unites Everyone), which she launched in 2003 to assist at-risk youth in the college preparation process.

Education: A liberal arts degree from Miami University and a MA in Higher Education from New York University.

Experience: Angie joined MLT as a Career Prep Coach in 2004 with experience in investor relations and career services at NYU and St. John University. In addition to advising and producing professional development programs for MBAs, Angie developed and taught a career management course at St. John’s. With over 10 years of coaching experience, Angie is also a professional resume consultant and fitness instructor.

Eligibility Requirements

Are you a current college sophomore interested in applying? MLT’s Career Prep program is open to candidates who meet all of these requirements:

  • US citizen or US permanent resident (including DACA participant)
  • Applicants must be Black/ African American, Hispanic/ Latino(a), or Native American (if you represent more than one ethnicity, one of them must be Black/ African American, Hispanic/ Latino(a), or Native American)
  • Applicants must be college sophomores (Graduation in Fall 2019, Spring 2020, Summer 2020)
  • 2.8 minimum GPA (note that the average Career Prep GPA is a 3.5
  • A career interest in business or technology across any wide range of functions and industries
  • Ability to do all monthly assignments and attend all in-person seminars
