Career Prep Non-Admitted Applicants

All applicants should be proud of their accomplishments and confident in the potential for success in their careers. MLT does not grant admission to the Career Prep program if an eligible candidate does not meet the criteria for 2 or more of the areas listed below. We recommend that you identify areas where you can develop professionally so that you may qualify for competitive programs and opportunities in the future. We hope that you will be a candidate for one of our later stage programs (i.e. MBA Prep, MBA Professional Development and/or Career Advancement Program).

Little or no demonstrated leadership experience

You may need to seize more opportunities to be in leadership roles and make an impact. We search for candidates who can effectively lead teams and encourage individual achievement. We look for candidates who demonstrate a commitment to a broader community. We recommend that you explore organizations or affinity groups on or off campus where you can hold a leadership position (i.e. President, Treasurer, Founder, Team Lead, etc.). Devise a plan of action to make tangible impact/improvements in the organization (i.e. grew organization from 10 members to 20 members in a period of 4 months, increased revenue from $10,000 to $35,000 within 1 year by identifying an effective business growth strategy).

Low GPA and low test scores

You must demonstrate strong goal-setting ability and commitment to results via strong test scores, academic record and personal achievements. We also look for candidates who have been recognized by their academic institution as a marker of academic excellence and achievement. The average Rising Leader GPA is a 3.5/4.0. While an occasional slip in academic performance is understandable, it is of great importance that you regain a high GPA and maintain a commendable academic record.

“Coachability” concerns

Being coachable is one of the most important requirements needed to be a part of MLT and to develop professionally within your career. Being coachable means you are accountable for results and performance. We look for candidates who have demonstrated that they proactively improve performance, rigorously self-manage, and take responsibility for choices and actions. You will be given many opportunities to seek advice, mentorship and coaching from individuals throughout your career. It is critical that you learn how to take advice and use it to propel your growth.

Lack of clear passion and interest in participating in MLT

MLT is a rigorous program that requires commitment, discipline, hard work and self-analysis in order to develop professionally in the industry area of your choice. Becoming a member of MLT means that you will gain a great deal from the community and you will also be able to contribute a great deal to the network as well. If you did not demonstrate a clear understanding of the program expectations and a readiness for this level of commitment, you were not granted admission into the program.

Did not demonstrate scrappiness

MLT defines scrappy as an entrepreneurial, can-do, unwavering resolve to accomplish an objective. We look for candidates who proactively seek out resources to support his/her career search. The candidate must achieve goals and meet objectives with limited guidance and input. He/she must also demonstrate ability to gain access to resources (people, materials, opportunities) and does so thoughtfully and independently. It is important that you exhibit a resourceful attitude in your career pursuits moving forward.

Due to space constraints within the program, there are times where qualified eligible candidates are not directly admitted. If you’ve assessed that the reasons above do not apply to you, then you are likely on the program waitlist. If we are not able to admit you to this MLT program, we do hope you will apply to MLT in the future.
